Shettima Sure Of Victory Over Boko Haram

Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima believes the Nigerian government will eventually eliminate members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect even if they seem to be having the upper hand at the moment, killing and injuring hordes of innocent Nigerians.
Speaking with journalists in Maiduguri on the abduction of 234 female students of the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSC) in Chibok, Shettima vowed that recent Boko Haram killings would not dampen government resolve to combat the sect.
“They can burn our physical infrastructure, but they cannot destroy our souls”, Shettima said.
“We are going to survive and rebuild our lives because truth will always triumph over falsehood”.
He maintained that the sect’s ideology is built on falsehood; hence, it will not stand the test of time.
“The abduction of innocent girls is also a trial from God, and we will overcome it soon”, he added.
“Our hearts go to the parents of the abducted girls, because it is a tragedy that has befallen all of us”.
He assured parents of the kidnapped girls that security agents would not relent until the girls’ freedom is secured.
Shettima’s words of assurance came on the same day that Chief Thompson Okorotie, a kinsman of President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the convener of South-South Coalition for Goodluck 2015, claimed that killings by Boko Haram have not yet overwhelmed the president.
“It is unfair for some persons to label Jonathan a failure due to the bloody attacks by Boko Haram, because the president has successfully prosecuted the military campaign against terrorism”, he said.
“During President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, Boko Haram operated in 12 states of the north. But now, the terrorist group only operates mainly in the north-east.
“Apart from that, the Boko Haram members are on the run. We must also remember that what the administration is contending with is international terrorism and Boko Haram has been appropriately classified as an international terrorist group”.
Despite Okorotie’s words of praise for Jonathan, 195 of the 234 secondary school girls who were abducted last week have still not been found.
